Co-chair of the Berlin Democratic Kurdish Community Center (NAV BERLIN), H\u00fcseyin Y\u0131lmaz, shared his views with ANF on Abdullah \u00d6calan\u2019s proposal for a \u201cPeace and Democratic Society.\u201d Y\u0131lmaz emphasized that, based on this proposal, a new social and political process must be developed in Kurdistan, Turkey, and the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y\u0131lmaz stressed that the state must abandon its policies of denial and suppression. He said: \u201cWithout building a broad democracy front, neither peace nor democracy is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y\u0131lmaz stated that discussions should be carried out from a broad perspective based on the resolution framework developed by Abdullah \u00d6calan. He said that a comprehensive mobilization is needed in three main areas for a democratic solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that a broad alliance including all democratic forces in Turkey and Kurdistan must be formed. Y\u0131lmaz underlined that this process is vital not only for the Kurdish people but also for Turkey\u2019s overall democratization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y\u0131lmaz also pointed to the Kurdish diaspora and democratic circles in Europe as the second area. He said: \u201cThe components of the Freedom Movement in Europe are responsible for expanding the social struggle and strengthening the work of building a democratic society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the third and broader dimension, Y\u0131lmaz emphasized the goal of building a peaceful coexistence with the peoples of the Middle East. He said, \u201cAs Abdullah \u00d6calan has envisioned, a new political approach based on the culture of shared life among peoples is the foundation for lasting peace in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H\u00fcseyin Y\u0131lmaz also stated that the Turkish state must not avoid its responsibilities in this process and should not squander this historic opportunity for the sake of daily politics. He concluded his remarks by saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is possible to resolve the Kurdish question not through repression, but through democratic means. The mentality that marginalizes society through the discourse of \u2018terrorism\u2019 must be abandoned.
