The most important is that his freedom is indispensable for peace in the Middle East and the world. Breaking Erdoğan’s imposed isolation is part of our duty as feminists. We always fight for peace and know that Öcalan plays a crucial role in this. I am a member of the Abya Yala Feminist Network. We are applying as a delegation to visit Abdullah Öcalan. He was imprisoned for his ideas. At the heart of his struggle is opposition to colonialism, sexism, and male dominance, with a central role for women. Kurdish women fight on this basis to protect life. We recognize Öcalan’s role and want to visit him.”

The letter sent to the Turkish Ministry of Justice reads as follows:

“To the authorities of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey,

As feminists from various regions of South and Central America — a region we call Abya Yala in our struggle for liberation from colonialism — we, the undersigned, apply to visit Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in solitary confinement as a political prisoner on İmralı Island for over 26 years, through delegations composed of people from different countries and nations.

We believe that this imprisonment is an insult to the concrete possibilities of peace in the Middle East, which is a fundamental part of global peace, especially at a time when world powers are encouraging a Third World War.

As feminists, we believe that achieving peace in the Middle East and globally is essential, and Abdullah Öcalan’s leadership as a representative of the Kurdish people is of critical importance in guaranteeing this peace.

We believe that the Kurdish Women’s Movement offers a profound interpretation of the feminist popular revolution we are building in our continent.
