Meeting with the Imral\u0131 delegation, Ahmet Davuto\u011flu of the Future Party emphasized the importance of cross-party cooperation in the peace process. The DEM Party stressed that the planned parliamentary commission marked the beginning of a new phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a meeting with the Turkish Minister of Justice, Y\u0131lmaz Tun\u00e7, earlier today, the Imral\u0131 delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met with Ahmet Davuto\u011flu, chairman of the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi), to discuss the current state of the peace process. Both sides emphasized the importance of cross-party responsibility and social support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DEM party was represented at the talks in Ankara by MPs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar and lawyer Faik \u00d6zg\u00fcr Erol from Abdullah \u00d6calan’s defense team. The meeting focused on the role of parliament in shaping the next steps in the peace process, in particular the planned establishment of a cross-party commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018We are at a critical point\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are at a critical point in a process aimed at peacefully resolving one of Turkey’s deepest social conflicts,\u201d Ahmet Davuto\u011flu said afterwards. He emphasized that in a context marked by regional and global tensions, all political forces must take responsibility together. \u201cPsychological factors play an important role here\u2014empathy and level-headed language are essential,\u201d said the former prime minister. He expressed openness to further talks and support, adding: \u201cWe hope that this process will be successful and that we can contribute to a solution together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Broad involvement of all opposition parties is crucial\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DEM Party MP Pervin Buldan spoke of an \u201cimportant and meaningful exchange.\u201d She said that Davuto\u011flu was informed about the current state of affairs and his experiences as former prime minister were taken into account. \u201cThe planned commission in parliament should not be supported by just two or three parties. Broad involvement of all opposition parties is crucial for the credibility and effectiveness of the process,\u201d Buldan emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buldan also emphasized that this was a multi-stage process. \u201cFollowing the political talks and the symbolic act of the PKK handing over its weapons, the focus is now on legislation. The next step is to set up the commission and prepare the legal basis for lasting change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sancar: \u201c<\/strong>The process cannot succeed without social support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mithat Sancar also emphasized the importance of broad participation. \u201cA sustainable peace process needs social backing. Without this, it cannot succeed,\u201d he said. In this sense, the meeting with Davuto\u011flu was an important part of the consultations with all political and civil society actors, he said and added that they had heard the Future Party’s position firsthand and took positive impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buldan: Commission and laws are the next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about specific goals for the process, Buldan said that the current focus is on establishing a legal framework for democratic participation and disarmament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPart of these efforts is the parliamentary commission, which is tasked with drafting laws for democratic integration and freedom. Only then will the next phase be determined,\u201d said Buldan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
